It may be a New ERA, but there is a lot going on at this month’s “Heatwave Havoc.”
It was already announced that Keystone State Wrestling Alliance (KSWA) Hall of Famer Tommy Faime is now a Verified Investment Partner and 50% owner of Pittsburgh’s professional wrestling organization. It’s also been established that 50% owner and Chairman of the State Enterprise, Bobby O are at odds, looking for ways to “one up” each other for the June 28 event.
It started early with Faime arranging for “The Enforcer” Shawn Blanchard to jump right into the coveted “Number One Contender” spot for the KSWA World Heavyweight Title—ubiquitously known as the most important Single’s Title in the Commonwealth. Blanchard, a five-time former KSWA World Champion, had done a lot to elevate the strap over the 14 years it has been in existence. Blanchard will take on the reigning and current KSWA World Champion, Shane Starr, who defeated stubborn challenger J-Ru at Mayhem.
Faime thinks that Blanchard deserves a shot at the gold for an unprecedented 6th time. To answer, Bobby O has elected himself the Special Guest Referee for that match. Faime and Blanchard have been running their collective mouths, especially via social media, about this development. It will go down as an important match in the history of the KSWA.
While the subject of Social Media is broached, former KSWA World Champion “Dr. Devastation” Lou Martin is burning up the Internet with the upcoming “Loser Wears At Chicken Suit II” on June 28. Martin blames last September’s loss to Lord Zoltan for his recent, losing slide. He wants to quash those demons by getting his feathery revenge. That being noted, the loser of the match between Martin and Lord Zoltan will have to wear a chicken suit. The match last year where Martin had to don the fowl disaster has become an instant classic.
Not to take the focus away from the second and final rounds of the prestigious Golden Triangle Tournament. A first-of-its-kind tournament has been brewing to crown a new standard-bearer for the Steel City. After a grueling first round, four Megastars remain: “The King” Del Douglas, “The Jester,” Kris Kash and Bulldozer. In the first of the Semi-final matches, former KSWA Tag Team Champions—Douglas and Jester—will go one-one one. In the other Semi-final match, Bulldozer will take on Kris Kash. Both Douglas and Kash have worn the belt twice. The Jester and Bulldozer have not worn single’s gold in the KSWA before.
Once the Semi-finals are settled, the winners will compete in a winner-take-all match on June 28. A new Golden Triangle Champion will be named at the end of the night.
In an exciting stamp on the New Era, at Mayhem, Big Mike Malachi and Jack Massacre defeated Edric Everhart and Tyler Cross for the KSWA World Tag Team Championships. It was a return to gold for frequent champion Malachi, but a new sensation for the 7-foot-tall Massacre. The team, which weighed 660 pounds at the beginning of the night, thrilled the crowd with the explosive, open-challenge win.
Malachi and Massacre are asking Krazies to submit names for the new team. They are conducting their own contest on June 28. However, they might be too hasty. The Mercenaries—“Nasty” Nick Crane and Sniper—have had their names for quite some time. They are steamed that they were not the team to challenge Everhart and Cross (despite the fact that Bobby O gave the veteran duo the first right of refusal and they passed). Crane and Sniper are prepping for this shot, made specifically by the KSWA Championship Committee. The Committee announced that they are exhausted with The Mercenaries’ claim that they are not respected. The Committee says they are unsure why the team feels “entitled” to the straps.
Controversial 5-Star Champion Bobby Badfingers will team with former Legion of the Apocalypse teammate The Blood Beast to take on “The Drunken Luchadore” Joey Quervo and “Mr. Puniverse” Bob Atlas. The KSWA Championship Committee along with 50% KSWA Owner Bobby O arraigned for The Blood Beast to team with Badfingers at Heatwave Havoc to the displeasure of the KSWA Five Star Champion and his manager from Parts Unknown, Mayor Mystery. The Mayor plans to take this matter up with what he called “the real Owner” Tommy Faime. Quervo has been on the biggest winning streak of his career, and that includes a win by disqualification over Badfingers on May 31. Puniverse, who has teamed with Quervo and battled the Drunken Luchadore over the years, has a unique kinship with the Masked Wonder. This tag team matchup may not be a technical masterpiece, but it will assuredly have its unique moments.
Not to be outdone, J-Ru, who still holds onto a title shot for the KSWA World Title despite losing to Starr at the last match, hopes to get back to his winning ways when he steps in the squared circle against “Ice Man” Tony Johnson. Johnson, who lost a hard-fought battle against Bulldozer in the Quarterfinals, has vowed to work his way up back to Championship contention in the KSWA.
“Heatwave Havoc” will take place on Saturday, June 28 at the Teamster Temple, 4701 Butler Street in the Lawrenceville neighborhood within the city of Pittsburgh. Bell time is 7:30 (doors open at 6:30), tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for kids. Card is subject to change.
