Keystone State Wrestling Alliance (KSWA) Heavyweight Champion Shawn Blanchard has faced the lightning quick Kris Kash some 16 times in one-on-one competition. That doesn’t count the dozens of matches they’ve had in tag team, six-man, ultimate survivors and other contests over the past decade.
Their first match of significance was on January 20, 2007 when Blanchard pinned Kash in an odd Triple Threat Match that cost La Lucha his only title. About a month earlier, La Lucha had earned the treasure and strengthened its appeal to a world-wide audience. Blanchard hoodwinked the KSWA Championship Committee and had them add Kash, at 20 years, one month and 12 days old at that time, to the match. Had Kash won, he would be almost a year away from celebrating with alcohol. To this very day, La Lucha has not received any rematch against a World Champion Blanchard.
The long-standing rivalry takes center stage this Friday in a free admission (courtesy of Quality Cuts) event outside Alpine Bar, 1544 Broadway Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA Pittsburgh, PA 15216. Kash, who is among the short-list of best KSWA wrestlers to never be World Champion, has been battling Blanchard all over Pennsylvania in recent weeks. On June 27, Kash and Blanchard raged their most recent battle for the state’s most prestigious single’s title.
On May 30, the two faced on in the first “best two out of three” matches for the KSWA Heavyweight title in the organization’s 15 year history. Kash bested Blanchard in two out of three decisions; however, one was by disqualification, and a title can’t change hands in that situation.
In another match fraught with tension and history, Golden Triangle Champion and “Face of Pittsburgh” Lou Martin defends against Justin Sane. With five reigns, Justin Sane is arguably the best Golden Triangle Champion the KSWA has ever had, but “Dr. Devastation” would assuredly argue that cause. Martin, who has held the title twice, has defended the city’s most important strap with verve. While Martin has been on a roll, so has Sane. This match could contend as one of the best of the night.
The 7-foot-tall Jack Massacre has something to prove to “Deeds” on Friday Night. The KSWA Tag Team Champion has been checking on his partner, “Big” Mike Malachi this week, as the former KSWA Champion has been resting after an attack Saturday night. J-Ru and Mayor Mystery took advantage of a banged-up Malachi before Massacre could make the save. However, the damage had already been done and Malachi was rushed to a local Pittsburgh hospital. How this contributes to the KSWA Tag Team battle has yet to be played out. But until then, Massacre will take on J-Ru and Bobby Badfingers in a handicap match. Massacre was able to plant both members of Deeds, and Mayor Mystery during the June 20 “Brawl Under The Bridge.” But since then, Mystery and his wards have studied tape, scouted matches and prepared in other ways for this showdown.
Five-Star Champion Super Ginger will face Jay Flash as well as Harley T. Morris in a Triple Threat Match. Lately the 5-Star Championship, which was decided to showcase technical prowess, has shown a crowded field. The belt has already changed hands a couple of times in 2015. With Flash and Morris on upwards trajectories in their careers, anything can happen in this showdown.
Lord Zoltan will take on “Canada’s National Treasure” in “Nasty” Nick Crane. Crane, who is taking a break from the Pan Am Games in Toronto (he and Liam Duchesne have been asked to make motivational speeches to each of the Canadian athletes). Crane, who will take a leave on Friday when most of the free-style and semi-final matches are taking place, will arrive just in time for his match. He is expected to travel back to Toronto and meet Duchesne for the finals of most of the competition for Saturday.
In addition, “King” Del Douglas promises another of his infamous “Open Court Challenges” to anyone in the KSWA locker room who feels feisty. Douglas called out Massacre earlier this summer and that didn’t go well for his Majesty of Millvale.
This action and much more this Friday Night, at the “Beechview Brawl.” The event, provided courtesy of Quality Cuts, will be held at the parking lot outside of 1544 Beechview Boulevard in the Beechview neighborhood within the city of Pittsburgh. Admission to the event is free. There will be food trucks, merchandise for sale and other amenities at this event. Bell time is 6:00 p.m. Card is subject to change. Call 412-726-1762 for more information.
