There is no shortage of Megastars who believe that they are going to be wrestler who climbs to the underbelly of the Homestead Grays Bridge to retrieve gold. The biggest summer spectacular of the year returns to Homestead for Brawl Under the Bridge 5 Saturday, July 20.
Reigning Brawl Under the Bridge titleholder Lucio Deveer looks to retain this unique championship over the likes of the technically sound “The Gavel” David Lawless, Esquire, the high-flying Kris Kash, his tag team partner, the resilient Shane Starr, the fleet of foot Pittsburgh Luchadore Yinza, and the wily veteran “Face of Pittsburgh” Lou Martin in a Ladder Match. None of these exceptional athletes can be overlooked in this highly-anticipated contest. All are at the top of their skill set and each possesses the ability to climb the ladder for the Brawl Under the Bridge Championship.
Deveer won the match last year and has the experience to do what needs to be done to repeat. Lawless is every bit as tough as “The Enigma” and has the championship meddle to be in the fight to the very end. Kash has to be a favorite just on his ability to fly through the air better than any Megastar in history. Starr, like Lawless, is a fighting former champion who has battled in this atmosphere before. Yinza could be the “dark horse” in this contest, as his drive and ambition continues to lead him to high levels of competition. Then there’s Martin, another top-level athlete in these types of matches. He’s been to the mountaintop before and to the rafters of Homestead’s most revered superstructure. This will be a main event match in any arena anywhere.
The most coveted title in the Commonwealth is on the line as current champion Dennis Gregory is set to defend the KSWA World Heavyweight Championship against the 400-pound “Stone Age Savage” Beastman! These two highly-physical competitors have met before, with Gregory getting the win; however, the KSWA Championship Committee has given Beastman another shot, this time in the confines of Homestead. Gregory has proven to be a highly-competitive and hard-fisted champion, but no one is more unpredictable that Beastman. Might Beastman earn the KSWA Heavyweight Championship and parade up and down the Waterfront? Only Saturday night will tell.
The KSWA’s Golden Triangle Championship is on the line as the brand-new title holder Bubba the Bulldogdefends against the Megastar, he took it from:Anthony Alexander. The KSWA Championship Committee worked with Bubba’s manager, Mayor Mystery, to defend against Double-A, but “Bubba Two Belts” is not required to defend his other title, the 5-Star Championship. KSWA Owner Bobby O has also personally got involved in those negotiations, because he wants to provide only the best card, atmosphere and experience for the Brawl Under the Bridge faithful. Anthony Alexander, who successfully championed the city of Pittsburgh with its title of record, is eager to have an opportunity to get it back.
The KSWA Tag Team Championships are on the line Saturday night when new champions BROhemoth and Mitch Napier defend against “The Rev” Ron Hunt and “The King” Del Douglas. Might “The Best BROs around” successfully defend against “Thy Kingdom Come”? The matchup is unique. The power component definitely lies with BROhemoth and Napier, while Hunt might be the most physical athletes in the contest. Then there’s Douglas, the veteran, who knows every trick in the book to manipulate, distract and some would say cheat. Both teams are relatively new but Hunt and Douglas have looked very impressive since they started teaming together, and of course BROhemoth and Napier can hang with the best of them. All four of these Megastars are among the best talents working today.
Another showcase tag team match features four of the largest and most powerful entities anywhere. A Brawl Under the Bridge icon, T-Rantula will team with “Big Country” Matt McGraw to take on the rejuvenated team of “Big” Mike Malachi and the 7-foot-tall Jack Massacre. More than 1,300 pounds of Megastar will be in the ring at the same time for this free-wheeling slug fest. T-Rantula and McGraw have made a great team in recent months, while Malachi and Massacre represent one of the great tag teams in KSWA’s historic 19 years. This is the match for fans looking for a good, old-fashioned slug fest.
The matchup between Shawn Blanchard and Justin Sane has been previously detailed. The return of Blanchard’s mentor, KSWA Hall of Famer James J. Dillon is the tide-turner in this contest. Blanchard, a veteran of unrivaled Independent wrestling success, always performs just a tad better when the legendary leader of the Four Horsemen is also in his corner.
At last year’s Brawl Under the Bridge Ladder Match, Zak Hunter and Harley T. Morris, then still teaming as Team 12 Gauge, were dominate. A change in attitude for Hunter has since led him away from his rule-breaking partner. The two have battled frequently since then and will again when they meet up one-on-one at Brawl Under the Bridge 5. These battling Megastars know each other better than anyone, having teamed together and fought against one another in regional promotions over the years. And now their rivalry continues during the biggest event of the summer.
Brawl Under the Bridge 5 is this Saturday, July 20 Under the Homestead Grays Bridge, nearest the 7thAvenue underpass. Bell time is 7:00 p.m. Front row tickets are sold out; however, general admission tickets are still available for $5.00. For more information, call 412-726-1762. Card is subject to change.
